ACEC/PA Honors Ganflec Project in 2010 Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence Competition
April 8, 2010
On Thursday, Feb. 4, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Pennsylvania (ACEC/PA) recognized Exelon’s Renewable Energy Education Center in its 2010 Diamond Awards for Engineering Excellence competition.
Gannett Fleming and its affiliated company Ganflec Architects & Engineers, Inc., served as the prime consultant for Exelon’s new 3,950-square-foot Renewable Energy Education Center, one of only a few such facilities in the U.S., which received an Honor Award in the Energy category. A new feature inside the 110,000-square-foot Fairless Hills Generating Station in Fairless Hills, Pa., the center utilizes a hands-on exhibition area to educate children in a fun, memorable way about renewable energy, conservation, and sustainable practices.
The project scope grew dramatically within its aggressive five-month design-build schedule. Powered by 100 percent renewable energy, this Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Silver Certified facility features numerous energy-saving strategies and eco-friendly design solutions.
