New Educational Center to Incorporate Sustainable Design Elements

January 14, 2008

(Harrisburg, Pa.) Ganflec designed the renovations of Exelon Corporation’s Fairless Hills Facility to create an Education Center in Fairless Hills, PA. Because this is the highest-rated landfill gas-fueled power plant in the United States with a maximum capacity of 60 MW, the renovated facility showcases Exelon’s commitment to the environment by providing an educational outreach area as part of this facility’s daily operations.

Sustainable design features include use of construction materials with recycled content, recycling of demolition material, and high efficiency lighting and mechanical systems.

Within the Fairless Hills Facility, there is a large conference/classroom room for all visitors to “tell the story” of Fairless Hills and help visitors understand the many positive aspects of the Fairless Hills Facility today.  The Fairless Hills Facility is a showcase in the area of outstanding corporate citizenship and commitment to the environment.

Charles Beauduy, RA, FCSI, CCS, CCCA; Steve Knaub, AIA, NCARB; Charles McInnes, AIA, LEED® AP; Dennis McLaughlin and others provided support for the project.
