The Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors Inc. honored the Campus Square project in Harrisburg, Pa., at its Excellence in Construction Awards program. Ganflec Architects & Engineers, Inc. completed architectural, structural, and geotechnical design for the mixed-use commercial facility in midtown Harrisburg.

Wohlsen Construction Company, which provided preconstruction and construction management services for the building, accepted two awards from the chapter on behalf of the project team, including a first place Excellence Award in the commercial category and a second place Merit Award in the LEED® Green category.

The $14.8 million Campus Square project is part of one of the most comprehensive urban renewal projects ever undertaken in Harrisburg. The four-story, 73,000-square-foot building, which is one of the greenest in central Pennsylvania, serves as a benchmark for sustainable design and construction.

Remediation of an existing Brownfield site was performed, including the removal of nine underground storage tanks. The building is registered for LEED Gold certification. Its geothermal heating, ventilating, and air conditioning system features 46 wells that are 400-feet deep under the building’s footprint, a 42-kilowatt photovoltaic solar panel array on the roof, and white and vegetative roofs.
