(Harrisburg, Pa.) Blue Chip Federal Credit Union received bids on October 9th for a renovation project on which Ganflec provided various services. Bidding was successful and the owner has awarded the construction contract to the low bidder.
Ganflec provided various services for the ~$600,000 addition and renovation project. These include a feasibility study, preparing a zoning variance application and construction documents. Ganflec will also provide construction phase services.
Blue Chip FCU is a single branch credit union located on Derry Street in Harrisburg. The credit union has outgrown their current office building, which was built in 1964. With the support of the credit union's board, Ganflec has designed a new image for their headquarters incorporating sustainable features. The addition and renovation includes the use of renewable and local materials, high performance roof and wall insulation, triple-glazed windows, a direct-gain sunspace and a roof-mounted 3 kilowatt photovoltaic array. In addition to these built features, successfully obtaining a zoning variance has allowed the credit union to maintain its walkable, bikeable, neighborhood location. Renovating, instead of building new was significantly less costly. Also, staying in the neighborhood contributes to local economic sustainability and prevented the need to acquire and use undeveloped land.
