HACC solar panels(Harrisburg, Pa.) A group of architects from Ganflec Architects & Engineers, Inc. were recognized by Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) for their contributions to the solar panel project at the college's midtown campus in Harrisburg, Pa. The project was unveiled during a June 29 celebration.

The solar panel system was designed and built by HACC students with the voluntary help of faculty members, Ganflec, and several other companies in central Pennsylvania.

The project commenced in 2008 when HACC applied for and received a $15,000 grant from the Sustainable Energy Fund’s Solar Scholars program. The energy fund is a nonprofit that promotes energy-related education in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

HACC’s students were charged with the design and construction of the system with assistance from businesses, including Ganflec. Construction began in November 2009 on the three-kilowatt array, which will provide energy to light a parking lot and pedestrian walkways at HACC’s midtown campus. The system was brought online in December 2009.
